Stem Cell Transplant Program
INOVA Fairfax Hospital / Fairfax Stem Cell Transplant Program
A multidisciplinary team approach is used in patient care. It is designed to provide patients with the most effective care possible.
We strive to provide individual attention to our patients by treating the person as a whole and not just the cancer .
More than 600 bone marrow and peripheral stem cell transplants have been performed to date for a range of diseases including:
During a patient’s treatment period, he/she may receive their care at either INOVA Fairfax Hospital or in our outpatient facility. In the outpatient facility patients can receive the individual attention needed with the comfort of going home at night. This facility is designed to operate like a hospital. Patients can receive high dose chemotherapy, intravenous antibiotics, blood products and more, whatever may be needed prior to, during and after their transplant.
If a patient requires hospitalization, INOVA Fairfax Hospital has private hepa-filtered rooms designed to provide optimum protection from infections for the severely immunocompromised patient, such as an allogeneic transplant patient.
The nursing staff, pharmacy and laboratory in both the outpatient facility and the hospital all have years of experience in the field of transplantation. We have built a collaborative relationship with Life with Cancer to provide outpatient on-site psychosocial support and support groups. This is in addition to traditional inpatient Life with Cancer programs and psychosocial intervention.
