Dr. Maran graduated from Tirunelveli Medical College of India.  He then completed an internship and residency in training in Internal Medicine at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York and the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.  He underwent a year of fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the Medical College of Virginia.  He completed his fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at Baylor School of Medicine.  He served as chief fellow in his third year of training.  He is board certified in Medical Oncology and Hematology.

During this training, Dr. Maran worked closely with internationally renowned experts and developed a special interest in the fields of breast oncology, GI oncology, lymphomas, stem cell transplant and platelet and coagulation disorders.  Dr. Maran has several publications as original research papers and review articles in the field of molecular biology of red disorders, in addition to a book chapter in the same field. 

He holds memberships with the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
