Ivan Aksentijevich, M.D.

Dr. Aksentijevich obtained his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Belgrade, Serbia in 1986. Following his arrival in the United States, he worked for six years at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland where he was involved in cancer research. He eventually went on and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, following which he completed a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland. In July 2003, he joined Fairfax Northern Virginia Hematology-Oncology where he practices hematology and general oncology.

Dr. Aksentijevich is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine.  He is an active participant to Inova Alexandria Hospital Oncology Tumor Boards.  He has received several awards, including a National Institute of Health Biotechnology Transfer Award and an American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award.

Dr. Aksentijevich has a particular interest in Myelodysplastic syndrome, Lymphoma, and Leukemia. He is heavily involved in research, and he is a member of the US Oncology Hematology Interest Group, and Gastrointestinal Tumor Committee.  He authored numerous publications in the field of bone marrow transplantation, gene therapy, immunotherapy, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

In addition to his passion for providing compassionate and dedicated care for his patients, Dr. Aksentijevich enjoys playing tennis and traveling with his wife and five daughters. He is fluent in both French and Serbian.
